This is an amazing read.

doing graphics research project in the early 2000's this article really struck a cord with me. So many memories, it hard to believe that such a powerhouse of a API could be torn apart by bureaucracy.

One thing that seems to be always required on most flex project I've been a part of is the ability to dynamically embed fonts the the project. It just comes with the territory of creating dynamic content generators where you want the user to be able to have as many fonts as they can, but don't want the overhead of loading 100+ fonts at load time.

I've been waiting for this to show up online for quite some time.

This is the text of the first patent application I was a major contributor to and even though I'm still on the fence on the usefulness of software patents, it's still kind of exciting to have your name attached to one!

AlivePDF is a fantastic client side pdf generation library for ActionScript that I found a few months ago. It's opensource and a relatively new project but I've found it is an extremely powerful and fast library. Using the library is simple. Most of the configuration is done all from creating an instance of the PDF class :
var _pdf:PDF = new PDF(_orientation, Unit.INCHES, _page_size);
_pdf.setDisplayMode( Display.FULL_PAGE, Layout.SINGLE_PAGE );
_pdf.setBottomMargin(0);

I've been spending some time using the open source F*CSS library. This is an excellant library designed for flash that lets you apply flash based properties as a css stylesheet. This may not seem like much but it paves the way for adding some very powerfull features to your flash applications.

So the final day for the main part of the deck. I wandered over to Totem to buy one last deck board, and had it purchased and installed in no time:

So today was a pretty monotonous day. There's not a lot of excitment in laying deckboards so here's some pictures of the kids doing all the hard work for me :)

So I had high hopes that I could get the deck finished today, and as you can see I'm making good quick progress laying out the deckboards. Was getting a little out of align at one point, but managed to correct it and the boards seem to be laying nice and square. The boards have been pretty maliable so it's been pretty easy to straighten out any crooked ones so far.

So since we had a birthday party to go to this morning I didn't get started untill pretty late in the day. For the most part I got the edge deck boards on and angles cut perfectly. I had lots of help from the kids today, which while fun, means I didn't get nearly much done as I had hoped.

So Since Thursday ended up with no time to work on the deck since we went over to some friends in the afternoon and the Stamps had their opening game last night, I had to wait untill today to finish off the base of the deck.
I had big hopes today, It felt like I could get pretty close to finishing the deck off.
